Die Geschichte des deutschen Plakats nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg beginnt mit den Filmplakaten von Hans Hillmann. Seine Plakate werben nicht nur, sie kommentieren die jeweiligen Filme. Sie sind das Ergebnis einer eingehenden Beschäftigung mit den Charakteren, der Handlung, mit dem Kern und den besonderen Qualitäten eines Films. Hillmann kamen dabei seine außerordentlichen zeichnerischen Fähigkeiten zugute, aber er arbeitete auch mit Fotomontage, um das Filmthema im Plakat fortzusetzen. Diesem Anspruch widmete er sich völlig unabhängig vom Zeitgeschmack, indem er Flächen auf neue Weise strukturierte, Gestaltungs- und Freifläche komponierte und die Typografie als Teil des Bildes verstand.

Sie konzentriert sich auf das häusliche Umfeld und präsentiert uns mit einer Fülle emotionaler Materie, wie sie ein vertrautes Objekt oder familiäre Milieus enthalten können; wir verbreiten uns ständig über all das, was zu uns gehört. Im Gegenzug verströmen unsere Dinge ihre Dinghaftigkeit über uns. In the publication Upson presents a log-book that follows the process and ephemera of the Pepsi can's production, layered and juxtaposed with the manuscript of Upson's mother's autobiography, which describes her life in East Germany and her journey to the United States.

Workshop of the Film Form provides an in-depth overview of the achievements of Warsztat Formy Filmowej (WWF; Workshop of the Film Form), a group of avant-garde artists who were working at the Leon Schiller National Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre in Lodz, Poland, between 1970 and 1977. WWF was founded by the students and graduates of the school, now known as the National Film School, and included: Wojciech Bruszewski, Paweł Kwiek, Andrzej Różycki, Józef Robakowski, Zbigniew Rybczyński, Kazimierz Bendkowski, Antoni Mikołajczyk, Janusz Połom, and Ryszard Waśko. As pioneers of video art in Poland and structural cinema in Central and Eastern Europe, the artists refused classical narrative and traditional film media, working instead somewhere between cinematography and contemporary art.
This publication examines all aspects of WFF’s activity, from their films, photographic experiments, video art, and performative actions to their teaching work, which includes previously unexplored pedagogical contributions to the National Film School. Drawing on the private archives and oral testimonies of the WWF, Workshop of the Film Form attempts to provide a full account of the group’s history as well as a comprehensive survey of each member’s practice. The writers who were invited to respond to the WWF for this book provide insightful new readings of the group’s output and activities, contextualizing their work in the history of the prewar Polish avant-garde and the politics of experimental filmmaking in Poland under the rule of the Polish United Workers’ Party (PZPR).

Disobedient Bodies: JW Anderson at The Hepworth Wakefield has been published alongside the exhibition of the same name, curated by JW Anderson and opening The Hepworth Wakefield in March 2017. The book – made in a close collaboration between Jonathan Anderson, Andrew Bonacina and OK-RM – acts as an alternative exhibition space in which the pairings and combinations that unfold within The Hepworth’s galleries come in to play with images from Anderson’s collaborative photographic projects with Jamie Hawkesworth. The book object comprises a series of interleaved sections amassing 142 pages and featuring works by Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore, Constantin Brancusi, Eileen Gray, Sarah Lucas, Jean Paul Gaultier, Christian Dior, Helmut Lang and many more, alongside contributions from Anderson’s own collections.

The book is made up of an indexed flow of works punctuated by a series of commissioned texts from curators, scientists and theorists. It includes numerous foldout pages and employs an eclectic range of papers and print finishes. Gestalt was made from early-2016 to mid-2017 between London and Copenhagen and is the result of a close collaboration between the artist and OK-RM.

conflict atlas looks at history through the perspective of the falklands islands/islas malvinas. global events are mirrored to local proceedings on the archipelago. through this method it explores trade routes, colonial enterprises, patterns of migration, questions of identity, strategies in warfare and the role of the climate in social issues. conflict atlas comprises texts, maps and archival materials. starting from the case of the falklands/malvinas it aims to create a field of tensions by the multiplication and stratification of geographical sites, historical times and subjective views. within the tension field the atlas detects movements and events that are contingent in character and can reflect on human behaviour within conflicts.
jasmijn visser is a dutch artist who lives in berlin and utrecht. she works on the intersection of drawing, writing, research and design. a large part of visser’s practice is interdisciplinary collaboration and long-term on-site research: e.g. she undertook expeditions researching an open coal mine in siberia for the krasnoyarsk biennial, and spent four months studying the atlas van loon and related atlases in museum van loon for her solo exhibition bachelor’s delight, and went on a three-month expedition to the malvinas/falkland islands as the start of the falkl

a field guide to the snowden files is the first book to critically engage with artists responding to the nsa-files leaked by whistleblower edward snowden. considering the most relevant contexts in which the files have 'surfaced' (including media and archives), it reflects on how artists are deploying the files as raw material.
the book looks at the various civil society actors who have been appropriating the historic leak and orders their responses according to contexts in which the snowden documents have been published: media, art and archives. the different approaches share the common goal of rendering the documents accessible – to both present and future audiences. reaching out to the general public, they have also tasked themselves with reflecting on the complex political, social and technological realities that the snowden documents have helped to uncover.
